The train to Aswan - 17th January 2006
Today is a fairly simple post. We spent 18 hours on a train that was scheduled to take 12. Six of those were sitting in the same spot. The doors were locked and we couldn't get off - they actually threatened to shoot us if we did. And we weren't fed. And we didn't sleep. And there were mice. And the bathroom... Lets just say that the bathroom isn't an appropriate subject for this forum.
It wasn't our favourite day thus far.
Fletch's tips for new travellers
If you are on an extended train ride (and you're not entirely sure by how much it is extended) it's a very good idea to only mention the mice you've seen darting around the floor of the carriage to your wife when you are getting off the train. 'nough said.

How about large boots to stop the mice running around so said wife won't notice them running around?
Maybe the earlier option of 2000 camels for said wife would been a wise option given the deafening squeals and burden of carrying all luggage and said wife so they don't get attacked by the militant insurgence aka “The Rat Pack”. Purchasing all 2000 tickets for 2000 camels for an 18 hour train trip would make the ticket attendant laugh. That is until they had to remove the pleasantly and utterly delightful surprises left by “The Fletcher Herd”. But I bet cuddling up to said wife once in England will be more appealing then sharing the same bunk with 2000 camels. I bet they wouldn’t pour a pint like she could either! They could sort out those rowdy and less then savoury patrons though! Pah-Twang!!

I think you're very brave (and I can say this after experiencing cattle-class on Indian trains!) It's necessary to have a low point every so often, so you can enjoy (and identify) the high points later on!

LOL!!! Finally, something to make me stop wishing I had not left the trip early. It even made the wedding seem like a good time.
